The Tragic End of the Giovanni D'Elia Family in the Flood of 1863

Giovanni D'Elia (born circa 1815) died as a result of heavy rains that continued for day and eventually caused the river LaPonte to rise up and wash his house away with his nine children on October 17, 1863. His wife, Cherubina Scofano, (her father was Salvatore) was the sole survivor. Giovanni was Giambattista's (my great grandfather) older brother.
